Time

Friday, December 21st, 2007

As children our summers last forever and Christmas and birthdays never seem to arrive. In our twenties we live like we are invincible and can do it all. Our forties arrive and instead of ending the holiday party at 2 a.m. we toast the New Year in at 11 p.m. When social security planning becomes our dinner conversation and we mark events by seasons rather than years, the reality of “time” settles in our minds. Inside every elderly person is a child who shrugs their shoulders and ask themselves what ever happened!
Happy Holidays to all and promise yourself to make time to take time in 2008!

Remember Play?

Sunday, December 9th, 2007

When someone would come to your front door and say “can Jackie come out and play”, or when we would all meet at the neighborhood field, throw down paper bags for bases and call our own balls and strikes and make our own rules! Learning to play is just as important in todays world as it was in the days of the 1950’s but the style and form of play has gone through dramatic changes. Well meaning adults have stepped in to organize the games of youth, particularly ball games. Uniforms, team meetings, “try outs”, practices and fund raisers are more the norm. The art of “play” has changed. We adults now choose areas to “play” in and the style in which we choose to play. Resorts, casinos, cruises and travel adventures now fill those times of “play”. These are all wonderful adventures, but nothing competes with the memories of the old ball field or court.
